INTERVIEW GUIDE: 8 KILLER STEPS TO NAIL AN INTERVIEW
1.
Prepare
When we say prepare, prepare not only your updated
CV but prepare yourself in general. Give yourself a time to browse the internet
and research even a little info about the company that is about to interview
you. Prepare your clothes to wear. Prepare your mindset. Most importantly
prepare physically in a way that you don't sleep late that you end up not
feeling fine on the day of the event.
2.
Pray before leaving your house
I know this will not probably the most popular
advise for those who are atheist but for a Catholic like me, praying is my
foundation. This is the most powerful, free service God has given all of us. A prayer leads us to a moment with Him and thus allows us to offer our life (and our upcoming) interview in His hands. Ask for the Holy Spirit's guidance to straighten your path and be able to answer the questions at your best.
3.
Be Early and Dress Smart
Sleep early the night before the interview. Wake up early, if possible to set your alarm at least 2 hours before your interview time. Dress smartly - see to it that it's formal or say semi-formal and light colored blouse, shirt. Come early in the venue, try 20 minutes earlier and so when you arrive, you still have a few minutes to prep.
4.
Turn off your mobile phone
The least unlikely you would encounter during your interview is when your own mobile phone starts to ring, thus disturbing your momentum and disrupt an impression you are building with your "future" employee. Turn it off or put it on silence. I guess 30 minutes can wait for any call.
5.
Smile and Handshake Firmly
First impressions are always important. Once you meet the person (or any person who entertains you once you arrive) make sure that you flashes your best smile. Make it infectious that the person you meet will remember you. Handshake firmly as well for them to know your presence. (not breaking their bones of course! - ha ha ha kidding aside)
6.
Be Confident
How do you define confidence? Confidence is being true to yourself. Confidence is not aggresive. Confidence is in your way of standing, don't slouch, it's in your way of speaking - speak like you know it, answer questions like you own it. In fact first interviews are actually about you!
7.
Do eye contact
Conversing to an HR personnel requires eye contact - this way allows your interviewer that your are present. Having a confident eye contact gets the attention of your interviewer, it sends them a message that you want this job, that you are sincere in this conversation.
8.
Be Attentive and Ask Question
While doing all above, the most important is being attentive, be present, listen. There could be posibilities that a follow-up question is being raised, but because you've been nervous and has been really focused on what to say - you might miss the additional question. Of course it is okay to ask it again, just be honest. Ask question at the end of the interview - some people are curious if it is okay to ask your interviewer, my answer is yes. Yes because it will create this thought that you are indeed interested to become a part of their team.
Did I miss any thing? Share your thoughts and let's help each other!
God Bless!
